Sun/Moon at 9 degrees; Trine Jupiter
Semi square Venus & Neptune
Welcome to the full range of Aquarian energies and possibilities! While Pluto in Aquarius will be with us for some time, and its importance does not diminish, when considering the monthly cycles and the hope of new beginnings, this new moon is an idealistic champion!
We are given an enthusiastic overview of this Aquarian new moon from Lena of the Shamanic school. She writes:
This new moon could bring challenges of an emotional nature, making it even more important to stay positive, inspired and looking towards a brighter future rather than feeling despairing and negative about what is possible. The abundant quality of this time can work both ways. It can either magnify the negative or magnify the positive. It is up to you where that abundant quality lands.
This New Moon also makes the end of the year of the Dragon and the beginning of the year of the Snake. This is a huge shift in energy and perspective. The last few weeks have been under the influence of the last tail whip of the dragon, bringing an intensity to every experience. We welcome the year of the Snake as a harbinger of flow, change, creativity and rebirth.
There are planetary changes that accompany this new moon and act as an insightful prelude into a new world of possibilities- pro & con… it contains a lot of Uranian energy from the entry of Mercury into Aquarius on the 27th; from its sextile to Venus on the 26th, after its powerful relationship to Mars on the 25th, and we can await the change in Uranus itself; It stations, and eventually moves direct very slowly on the 30th! (Uranus remains on the 23rd degree until March!) Some astrologers will comment on this time period as a time for “re-dos” or revisions. Other commentators expect that this assessment can lead to our “phoenix” moments, when we can arise from the limits of the past and learn to fly free again… As April Elliot Kent puts it, “a few days either side of this station, extremity and overreaction are in the air, so proceed with caution. Uranus will want to shake us loose from ways we hold ourselves back from pleasure and prosperity, but that rarely comes without consequences.”
As understand it, and as I have spoken to my clients who have Aquarius prominently placed in their chart, much of the scope of this interpretation comes from where the 9th degree of Aquarius is located (7-11 degrees) and what planet and what house it is located in our how it expresses itself!. Next, please check the house where Uranus sitting at 23 of Taurus can be found!
Lynn Hayes, a new astrological contributor, teaches us this about the nature of Mercury and the new moon. She writes:
Mercury in Aquarius, the sign of the scientist and wizard/inventor, brings new information and the intellect into sharp focus. Reasoning takes precedence over raw emotion, and we are able to think clearly and with innate wisdom. Once Mercury enters Aquarius, it will immediately be under the spell of Pluto to intensify thought and awaken the wisdom that comes from a fearless exploration of hidden truths. We may find ourselves in the midst of arguments and heated discussions; on the other hand, we can tap into the Plutonic intensity for greater focus and awareness.
Aquarius New Moon January 29. We reach Peak Aquarius at this New Moon, with Mercury exactly conjunct Pluto in Aquarius along with the Sun and Moon. … [there is a contrast that might take place and can be seen as an essential difference between the nature of Aquarius and the essential qualities of Pisces.} Tied into the New Moon chart is a conjunction of Venus and Neptune to the North Node, all in Pisces. Where Aquarius elevates the intellect, Pisces calls for the inner voice to be heard. The creative impulse comes from within when the mind is quiet, and that is the lesson here.”
Jupiter also comes into play, as it offers a favorable trine to planets and the moon in Aquarius. Even though it is retrograde, it can lend an expansive and optimistic outlook; however, being retrograde the warning is about realism and the workability of any creative plans or ideals that surface or that are presented to you at this time…
Adding a bit of humor to this report, and since I am an Aquarian, I thought this description of my/our qualities would be an interesting addition… Astrologer writer and teacher, April Elliot Kent. She observes this: “Are Aquarians weird?
This week’s New Moon is in Aquarius (Jan. 29, 4:36 am PST), a sign with a reputation for being…offbeat. Unconventional. And let’s face it: weird. But is that reputation deserved?
I mean, yes and no. On the outside, most Aquarians are utterly normal, rather conventional (its traditional ruling planet is sober Saturn, after all). In fact, Aquarius seems like your favorite uncle or the girl next door – very relatable. (Take presidents FDR and Ronald Reagan, for instance.)
But on the inside, Aquarius is utterly committed to individual freedom. they’ve got conga drums of their own, banging away inside their head. And whenever someone doesn’t play by everyone else’s rules, there will be some who call them weird.
But scratch down deep in any of us, and you’ll find a nugget of weirdness, where we’re not like everyone else. You may not have Aquarius prominent in your chart, but you’ve got this freedom-loving loving sign somewhere, in a house or two, and this is where you are much weirder on the inside than anyone would guess. But it’s also where you’re kind of sparkly and charismatic. Where you have a gift of connecting with others on their own level, if only for a casual conversation. At this New Moon, celebrate what makes you different – it’s what makes the world notice you!
Another phenomenon of note occurs during the new moon in Aquarius every year… It is The Chinese New Year! The Chinese calendar and among all the Asian countries that align themselves to this lunar new year, the emphasis will be decidedly feminine…
Leaving the dragon year with all of its more overt energies behind, we welcome the year of the Yin Wood Snake! (sometimes referred to as the serpent)
Here is what astrologer David Nicol writes about the incoming year of the snake/serpent. He writes:
The serpent is a symbol of wisdom, intuition, and regeneration. In years marked by this zodiac sign, the following important traits manifest:
– Intelligence and introspection: The Year of the Serpent is a year of reflection and well-calculated decision-making. This is when long-term strategies pay off.
– Transformation and healing: Snake energy brings major changes, but also the possibility of overcoming obstacles and rising from difficult situations.
– Discretion and mystery: This year is characterized by an atmosphere of caution, suggesting that big changes will be made with subtlety, not noise.
Focus on relationships and cooperation: Emphasis is placed on strengthening personal and professional ties to create sustainable balances.
Reading through a variety of sources, from the simple definitions to the elaborate Feng shui accounts, here is what most of the commentators agree as qualities of the snake and the year ahead. They conclude that:
“To get a sense of what you can anticipate the Year of the Snake bringing, it can help to consider the sign’s unique characteristics as well as other aspects of this specific Snake year, such as the element it’s associated with, which is Wood, and the fact that it is a Yang year (more on that in a moment).
You’ll be more cautious
Because the Snake lives on the ground, those born under this sign are more aware and mindful of the world around them, and in turn, they’re anything but impulsive or careless….. “In fact, most will take a wait and see approach,” she notes. The Snake’s guarded approach could color how we’re all moving through the world and building momentum on our goals — and that’ll be in a slower, less dynamic way than in 2024. In other words, it’s not a hit-the-gas kind of year. “In general, people are more cautious during a Snake year,.. This year, there will be a lot of talk, but less action will actually happen as plans get tied up in knots.”
You may embrace adaptability
One of the Snake’s greatest strengths is their flexibility, a characteristic we’ll all do well to embrace more this year. “As the world goes through so many changes, such as climate change, war, and political upheaval, as well as changes in jobs due to technology, we are reminded to be adaptable,”
Another synopsis: “We will be called to embrace the simple, yet profound, lessons: the power of gradual transformation, the wisdom of introspection, and the grace of gentle, mindful growth. It will be a year to release anything that no longer serves us – to shed the old skins of our emotional, mental and physical burdens…. The mystical nature of the Snake will remind us that even in times of stillness and reflection, significant progress and harmony can be achieved.
2025 will be a year to slow down a little, to reflect and trust our intuition, to listen deeply to ourselves and others, and to honour the beauty and wisdom found within the cycles of release and renewal. It will be a year to release anything that no longer serves us – to shed the old skins of our emotional, mental and physical burdens – so that we may create the space of possibility that is so fundamental to true clarity and transformation. Moving through life with patience and flexibility, we will align ourselves with the nurturing, perceptive and discerning energy of the Yin Wood Snake to create a life that is both grounded and inspired. Lastly, the number 9 is highlighted this year… Also, associated with this new year; you are to clear and clean the days before, but NOT on the day! This includes showers and hair care or anything!
