Sun/Moon at 9 of Aries; Aries Stellium;

Mercury and Venus retrograde in Aries

Right away, some astrologers will view this new moon and partial solar eclipse as being one of the most powerful event of this year!

While this could be a very long report, I will break it up these observations and my own conclusions, into three summary sections; The new moon; the partial solar eclipse; and the advent of Neptune moving into Aries.

The new moon, the first past the Vernal Equinox, is the true beginning of Spring! Aries being the first sign, the Cardinal sign that ushers us into the next season… One could construct a chart of this new moon and look at it as a harbinger of the year that promises many shifts and changes; not the least of which are the slowest transpersonal planets changing signs! While I have briefly discussed Pluto moving into Aquarius, there is some backtracking during the year, before it movies in for a 20-year stay in 2026. Uranus will also be shifting from earthy Taurus into airy Gemini in later this Spring. Then there is the great shift of Neptune into Aries, which happens first on March 30; right after the new moon and the eclipse!

This new moon injects us with a powerful stimulant; It can fill us with energetic actions, bursts of creativity, the ability to start over, and our capacity for change! However, it does have some qualifiers and some detours or challenges; first of which is that Mercury remains retrograde until the middle of April; next, Venus travels closely in Aries to Mercury  and the Sun-going through her disappearance and coming out on the other side as the morning star… Then there is Mars, frustratedly sitting in square while remains in Cancer, So, what can this all mean?

It is a relatively rare event that an eclipse and a new moon both happen without any major aspects or planetary interactions with the Moon or the Sun. That lack of scope acts is a magnifying glass on what there is to see and discern. Aries energies!

Astrologer writer, and teacher, April Elliot Kent offers us an overview of these interactions with the emphasis on how the retrograde actions can influence us. She writes:

“As Venus continues her retrograde journey, we review our mental list of what’s important. And as Venus comes together with Neptune (March 27, 2025, 6:13 am PDT, 29º53′ Pisces)…, we take a closer look at beauty, grace, music, and the sorts of things that make life delightful.

Mercury retrograde brings a double-dose of haziness on March 29, first entering Pisces (7:18 pm PDT), and then almost immediately conjoining Neptune (7:46 pm PDT).

This is a sensitive combination, a sponge-like Mercury that absorbs every bit of information that comes its way. And this is already an extremely intense day, with a Solar Eclipse and Neptune just hours from its Aries ingress.

It may be tempting on this date to avoid upsetting news or sensitive conversations, either out of concern that we might hurt somebody else or fear that we might be hurt ourselves. And I have to say, avoidance is probably not the worst idea;

after all, if you drive into a dense fog, it’s usually advisable to pull over until things clear up. And Mercury will be direct (April 7) and reenter Aries (April 15) soon enough.

Until then (or for a few days at least), take naps, read fiction, play music; allow space for reflection. You can tackle tasks that require rational thought and analysis, but it may be harder to focus, and it would be a good idea to get someone to proofread your work. It’s a better time to dive into artistic pursuits and to explore spiritual and intuitive interests.”

A few caveats during this moon cycle (Friday through to Monday) Retrograde Mercury aligns with Pluto, so be sure to avoid small talk and especially avoid having the pressure to speak when you do not want to be social or have a dialogue! Rest in ways that promote quiet and reflection. While you will be capable of deep conversations, choose the person or the small group of people well, as there can be agitation and willfulness being expressed! Another possibility will be that you are visited or reminded of previous communications, past discussions, remarks, etc. Recycled thoughts, of course, are double-sided; some we might want to pleasantly recall, others would be best to remain in the dustbin of regret or remorse.

Retrograde Venus slides back into Pisces and will, in a month’s time, journey back to Aries, and take up a more direct relational presence in our lives. However, for now, as she retreats back into the sensitivities and reveries of Pisces; allow yourself to live at a slower pace thereby opening yourself to see hidden beauty and follow the messages in your dreams about yourself and outline your ideal life, relationships etc.

Mars remains in tense aspects to planets traveling through Aries, but befriends with his Martian energies any planets remaining in Pisces, such as Saturn. This allows for workable plans and measured actions that lead to success. We need to be aware that the warrior in us might be stimulated, but those actions have to be measured, and the results of our actions, militant or compassionate, might take time to manifest or prove themselves. The one sticking point: Mars square Chiron earlier in the week lingers as a tense prelude to the eclipse; it signals disturbing insecurities, and will ask us to look into the social patterns and attitudes surrounding men and the use of power in our world…

Next, a few words on the partial eclipse, as we will not see another eclipse until 2032….

Eclipses carry with them, the energies of change; l be it a for positive personal transformation all the way to the negative edges of society including political violence and intrigue! “Weird things can happen!”

Lena of the Shamanic School gives us her assessment of what we can expect and understand about this new moon and its eclipse. She writes:

… This new moon eclipse is the bookend of a couple of very intense weeks of dramatic evolutionary change. The energy is less stagnant now, however it is wise to continue to be vigilant and mindful of our reactions, impulses and communications. It will take some time for this change to move from its energetic and spiritual form to manifest in a way that we can experience in the physical.

Trust and patience are needed at this time as we move into this new cycle, and it is important to keep our integrity, authenticity and vibration high as we navigate forward. We are being pushed up into the next level, whether the personality is ready for it or not. Remember that nothing happens without a reason. Be in humor and try and enjoy the ride!”

The final consideration of the “big 3” happening this weekend will be the first or initial time that Neptune sojourn into Aries… On average, She spends 14 years in a sign, and it takes approximately 160 years to return to an exact place or sign. Therefore, we can begin to welcome Neptune’s brief return on March 30th… She returns to a place that she has not visited since approximately 1860, when she first began to occupy the sign of Aries.

Astrology research group, Astrobutterfly, offers us an early assessment of the influence of Neptune moving from the watery, ethereal and mystical sign of Pisces into the fiery, dynamic action and creativity of Aries.

They have given us an extensive overview… I will cite only some early conclusions, as Neptune will not take up her permanent residence in Aries until next winter, 2026…

“Neptune symbolizes the healing lap of the ocean’s tides, cleansing and rough as a kitten’s tongue; faith in, and worship of, what we deem sacred; but illusion and delusion, too. Famously, Neptune last entered Aries on April 13, 1861, just one day after the attack on Fort Sumter kicked off the American Civil War. The most divisive and bloody battle in this nation’s history had its genesis in a Neptune “dream,” the determination to preserve an agrarian culture and economy that was shimmering and beautiful until you noticed its cost in human enslavement.

Each time Neptune enters a new sign, we audition scenarios for a new collective dream. In Aries, this vision could be the ram, battering its horns against its enemy to the death, or it could be the selfless, sacrificial lamb. Neptune will be in Aries until March 2039, with a brief retrograde to Pisces on Oct. 22, 2025 through Jan. 26, 2026.

Literally minutes before the ingress, Neptune conjuncts Mercury retrograde at 29°59’ Pisces – a moment where a piece of information or insight could change everything. Sure, Neptune is not Uranus, so we might not see an abrupt, shocking change – but with Aries, nothing is ever predictable, especially since this ingress happens right after an eclipse.

Yet, whatever it is, something will shift, and the impact will be so profound that it may take time to fully understand. We can expect major global developments as well as personal shifts, since Neptune is moving into a whole new house in our natal charts. Whatever has been a dominant theme in your life over the past 14 years (as represented by the house Neptune was transiting) will now evolve into something entirely different. We are entering a brand-new 14-year chapter – and the house where you have Aries in your chart will give you important clues about how this transit will unfold for you personally. Of course, the outer planet will express the themes of the sign it’s in  its own archetypal way. …

So how will these Neptunian themes evolve when Neptune leaves Pisces and enters Aries? If Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, associated with dissolution, surrender, and the collective, Aries is the 1st sign – the individual, the spark of life.

Aries is where we emerge into this world and take our first breath. Here, the focus is to assert ourselves, define who we are, find our identity, and survive. If Pisces is the energy that dissolves boundaries – the ocean, “we’re all in this together” – Aries is the “this is me” energy: I’m a unique individual, and I’m going to find what makes me different from you.

What does that mean?

  • Less watching, receiving, drifting (Pisces) – more doing, asserting, creating (Aries)
Less blind faith (Pisces) – more about becoming the hero of our own journey (Aries)

At a global level, Neptune in Aries marks a potential shift from globalization (Pisces) to autonomy and sovereignty (Aries). Institutions, people, and nations will begin to (re)discover their unique identity, which can result in new political positioning, redrawn borders, and a redefinition of national and personal purpose. The approach will be less about global connectivity – such as operating through an open-borders or one-world framework – and more about establishing or reclaiming what sets us apart.

WHAT – Neptune in Aries (2025–2039):

…  At an individual level, this is an incredibly significant shift. Neptune moves out of a house or area of life that has been in focus for the past 14 years and enters a completely new terrain. What once felt like the dominant theme in your life will begin to fade, and a new area of life will gently come into focus. Neptune is where we are asked to reinvent, surrender, and allow the current of life to carry us to new places. Neptune is where change happens – not always through dramatic events like Pluto or Uranus might bring, but through a subtle, ongoing rewiring of how we perceive,”

And lastly, a personal reflection and heartfelt advice from Amanda Walsh who is the owner/manger of Astrology Hub…. Her advice to all of us for this eclipse season is this:

“To look around. To soak it all in.

Notice who’s showing up in your life—and who might be gently exiting. Pay attention to the storylines emerging, the synchronicities, the subtle (or not-so-subtle) nudges from the Universe.  Breathe it all in.
And cherish the fact that you’re here.”
