Sun & Moon at 7 Taurus

Square Mars; Mars opposes Pluto

Welcome to the stabilizing energies of Taurus… or at least I hope so!

In our erratic, insecure, and reeling society, we all could use a healthy dose of stability and security… and maybe a good, healthy meal! Taurus! However desirable, such comfort might prove to be elusive for us during this time period because of the squares and oppositions. (Thursday to Tuesday)

A synopsis of what is in store for us comes from Lena of the Shamanic School. She writes:

…  ”There could be some irritation and an unsettled feeling as not all the pieces have been neatly regrouped yet, however the energy is ready to move forward and there should be some new inspiration as to your direction in life. For those of you still feeling a bit in limbo or in neutral gear and waiting for clear signs around what is next, be patient, be present, be flexible, and be available for what shows up. This is a good day to confirm with yourself what it is that you do not want to re-manifest as a way to narrow the field of possibilities. It is an earthy time to work with the earth, your grounding, and how you can enjoy the pleasures of life instead of focusing on any imbalances, negativity, and strife, even if you are witness to its presence around you. Feed and nurture yourself by being out in nature with gratitude and with an appreciation of beauty. And, remember that growing pains are just what they are, growing pains, and the entire planet is experiencing them, each in their own way. Keep smiling!”

Given that there are only a few aspects active (using my 3 degree orb limit), the foundational focus will be on the qualities of Taurus and how best we can appreciate and understand them. While those earthy qualities are well known, one of the guiding or foundational qualities we can ask of this Taurean energy is to ground us in a protective way or provide us with a sense of enduring reliable structure; a safe place or haven that might need to adapt to meet certain needs, yet be reliant remaining steady and strong for us…

The one aspect we will consider- and it is a powerful one!- Is the opposition of Mars and Pluto and how, in turn, both of those planets influence the activity of this new moon… in some clearly dramatic ways, Mars and Pluto now residing in fixed signs will compel and require action; The Taurean qualities of resisting change will be sorely tested by those push/pull demands.

Here is what the astrology research group, Astrobutterfly offers as guidance for these times. They write:

“This is an intense New Moon because it squares the Mars-Pluto opposition (3-4° Leo/Aquarius). This marks the culmination of the Mars-Pluto opposition transit – the peak of a series of 3 exact oppositions over the past months. The New Moon signals a new beginning. The foundations of our life (Taurus) will be tested. The question is – are these foundations a real, authentic expression of who we truly are? Because if not, then it’s time for change.

And much better to do it willingly – because what needs to happen will happen regardless. As Jung famously said, “What is not made conscious will be experienced as fate.

Something you’ve been resisting – perhaps because it felt safe, or because it was too uncomfortable to question – is now up for renewal. Chances are, given the prolonged Mars-Pluto tension in recent months, there’s at least a part of you that knows that something needs to change.

… We can use the tremendous force of Mars and Pluto to make the necessary changes deliberately. It will take courage – but on the other side is major relief and forward momentum.”

In a style or an emphasis somewhat awkward and strange for Taurus, we are going to be asked/cajoled into change. It might come “kicking and screaming,” but the necessity for giving up a cherished pattern of actions will be required of us. What kinds of actions, or what kinds of attitudes?

Look to where Taurus is in your chart; what house it occupies for your best sense of what needs your attention and awareness. I will call it “cocooning” or keeping tightly wound until the forces of change and growth demand that you open yourself up to new experiences that will then shape and inform you… allow you to fly and maybe even inspire you!

Whether you are aware of it or not, this Winter into Spring Has been a time when our unconscious has been busy; It has been actively seeding new ideas, new feelings, new actions for you to try on, and see if there is a fit- a fit that you can grow into or adapt to easily, or more likely these inner workings will be made more conscious and aware so that you can use them as a signpost indicating a crossroads between who you were and who you can become!

What you accept, try on, adjust to in your life during this new moon period, will begin to manifest more fully next month as a new direction or new emphasis for your life to seriously consider, work with, or accept.

David Nicol of Earth Astrology gives us more background and details that outline what we could expect. He writes:

“Pluto in Aquarius opposite Mars in Leo brings searing intensity, with Pluto having a cosmic mandate to demolish any egocentric expressions of willfulness that do not align with the evolutionary intentions of the universe. This transit could easily trigger explosive events on the world stage as nations and leaders jostle for power in an increasingly unstable global political environment. On a personal front, the best way to approach this transit is to embrace the intensity as a fiery initiation into your next level of power and integrity. We cannot avoid the crucible, but we can sincerely wish to grow in alignment with our soul. In this way, we can welcome the purifying flames when they come and even find enjoyment in their intensity, knowing they are bringing us closer to our essence.”

While these words express a noble and optimistic message, it is important to understand that both Mars and Pluto express power… This dynamic and potent aspect between the two power brokers of the zodiac has had an extended lifetime for us during this last few months, and now this clash of wills and desires towards definitive action is coming to its conclusion/culmination.

Simply put, Mars is our active personal will… what me/myself/and I want to have happen; It is our arrogance, petulance, and self-centered motives. Mars, in opposition to Pluto and square to the Sun & Moon, can indicate some harsh or unpleasant challenges in health, relationships, or in your bank of resources. Health-wise, there can be stressors for the heart and circulation, and over this time period, our jaws, teet,h and ears might be affected.

While Pluto is the ultimate result of all that energy, will, focus, and desire. Pluto displays a level of reality that egotism could not predict or was not willing to contemplate, and you could be unaware or things could happen suddenly! As a consequence, Pluto, which is symbolic of our collective wills, our shared focus, and collective energies, shows the larger picture and presents us with the actual, wider perspective; in short, the larger picture of reality that is the collective or cultural result!

Astrobutterfly has offered us a longer, contemplative summary of this interaction between the forces of will and desire. They write:

“When Mars is opposite Pluto, these two forces are at odds. Chances are, we’re in resistance mode. There’s something we’re struggling to accept – and instead of facing it, we deny it, fight it, go in circles about it, or project blame onto others. So ask yourself: “What is it that I keep fighting, even though deep down I know it’s here to stay?” And more importantly: “What’s the deeper reason I’ve been resisting it?”

They continue to outline the whole question: “When we have tense Pluto transits, we often feel that the whole world is against us. We push, we fight – and the world pushes back harder. The external environment feels controlling, oppressive; power imbalances feel heightened and inescapable.

Pluto becomes the bad guy. But is he, really? Remember, Pluto is the result of all the inner workings of individuals – all the drives, desires, and fears that, together, create a collective force. Pluto is that mass effect

When we don’t like the results of this “mass effect,” we project our anger and discomfort onto people and situations that appear to symbolize Plutonic power – systems, authorities, or individuals who seem to hold more control than we do. These people or institutions – who don’t let us get what we want (Mars) – become the “power-hungry,” the “abusers,” the “manipulators.”

But the twist here is that Pluto doesn’t create them – it reveals them. Pluto simply exposes the shadow content already alive inside us. … Pluto, in its harshest transits, shows us where we’re still entangled – where we’ve given away our power, or denied our agency.

And only by confronting those projections can we begin to transform them. Whenever personal power is not embodied and acted upon in an honest, integrated way, it becomes subdued. … Pluto is that knowing that sooner or later, whatever mask, whatever white lie, whatever step we skip to avoid discomfort – is only taking us farther and farther away from our truth, from our true power – and will eventually boomerang back to us.”

To Recap:

“Pluto reminds us that power doesn’t lie in withholding, diverting, or bending reality, but in expressing, confronting, and being real. Mars is in Leo. Are we asserting ourselves for the sake of being right, or for the sake of being real? Do we do it for approval – or for authentic alignment? Do we want to be known, or do we want to be seen?

At its highest, Mars in Leo is not about acting from ego, but from the courage to express the truth of oneself. And courage does not mean blazing into other people’s lives shouting, “THIS is what I want!” – as if our desire was the only one that mattered.

Courage is about the willingness to be real in every fiber of our being – whatever that means. Even if it’s inconvenient. Even if it changes everything. … Sometimes it means walking away. Sometimes it means silence. Most of the time, it means removing all the programming, layers, and layers of conditioning, and acting from a deeper place, beyond space and time. …

… Just like the windmills that became enemies in Don Quixote’s projection on his quest to prove his chivalry, Pluto becomes our projection – a backdrop for the unresolved power dynamics within ourselves…. The New Moon in Taurus is not here to teach us anything. It’s not here to give us guidance – to offer us a prayer, a ritual, or a promise of transformation. It simply demands us to get real.”

To these thoughts, Kathy Biehl of OM magazine adds a feminine dimension to her insights. She is also speaking about getting real.

She advises:

“The Taurus New Moon on April 27, which demands a new approach to resources, values, and our relationship to physicality and the earth. We’ll hardly be lolling around in the garden, though. Taurus’s ruler, Venus, is returning to action and reentering warrior goddess mode on April 30. She’s taking the experiences and discoveries of her retrograde journey and heading back out onto the road. Speaking out, standing up, and bravely and boldly going after what she wants. And so do we all.”
