The New Moon in Cancer
June 25th, 2025 at 6:31 AM EDT
Sun & Moon at 4 of Cancer; Jupiter at 3
Mars Sextile;Pluto Quincunx; Saturn and Neptune Square
Across the astrological spectrum, much is being made of this new moon and its previous day, Sun conjunct Jupiter. For any astrologers who are so inclined, they label this day as the “luckiest day” of the year because the classical view of Jupiter is the Great Benefic and with the Sun there is the possibility of big time blessings and experiences!
Following that outlook, the 24th is the day to play the lottery or place a bet! (just be prudent and careful, please!) Conversely, when these giants of the solar system align, there can be the experience-both personal and national-of “too much of anything!” It is famously prone to excess! So be sure to locate this conjunction in early Cancer, and where it is placed in your chart, and it will be there that life “flows” freely, where things can be exaggerated, and where those larger than life events and experience could happen to/for you!
Then, on the 25th, we are given the new moon, and with the lessons of care and compassion. We are given an objective perspective comes from Lena, of the Shamanic school. She writes:
“This new moon invites us to go inward and reflect on the home that is inside of ourselves. Is it abundant? Is it safe? Is it inspiring, nurturing and creative?
Is it a place we want to be? Emotions can come up during this time. Have the courage to give them space to be loved and resolved.
As we are still under the influence of the solstice, take some time to revisit your intentions and ask yourself if they are expansive enough. What would you dream if you could have anything? What would make you truly happy?”
Another observation geared to this conjunction and its potential influences and effects come to us from the astrologer, April Elliot Kent. She writes:
“Jupiter is in a conjunction with the Sun and Cancer New Moon this week, beginning a story about expanding your sense of home. How can you make your whole life a cozier, more nurturing place? And how can you take warm care of yourself and your loved ones?
…Cancer is, first and foremost, a symbol of home and family – where we feel that we belong. And Jupiter is the symbol of where we want to expand our horizons and carve out a bigger life for ourselves. So put the Sun and Jupiter together, and what we’ve got is a hankering for a big, bold adventure that gives us a chance to be part of a community.
The Sun symbolizes self-hood and heart, and Mars is the symbol of our work. When they meet in a sextile aspect (June 26, 2025, 7:11 am PDT, 05º13′ Cancer and Virgo), we’re presented with an opportunity to make our hearts visible through the work that we do.
Mars has something of a bad reputation among some astrologers, and his reputation is not entirely undeserved. But the gift of Mars is its passion, desire, and drive. On our happiest days, our work burns with that passion; and as the Sun enters the picture, it adds pure creative joy. Sculptor Auguste Rodin, known for the earthy physicality of his sculptures, was born with this planetary combination in his chart. He’s quoted as having said, “True artists are almost the only men who do their work for pleasure.” As the Sun sextile Mars this week, bring to your work every bit of passion and joy that you can. Be a true artist. Show your whole heart.”
All along the political and national spectrum of ideas and events, we are given this evaluation by Simone Butler, an experienced researcher and astrologer who writes for the newsletter, Mooncircles. She reflects using these words:
“At this time, the USA is in great turmoil once again. … In July, Uranus will dash into Gemini on its way to initiating the US Uranus return (2026-28), so a whole new version of freedom is on the horizon.
Bringing home and heartland into the spotlight, we have the upcoming Cancer New Moon (June 25, 3:32 a.m. PDT). At this lunation, the Sun, Moon and Jupiter begin activating the patriotic US Cancer planets (Venus, Jupiter, Sun and Mercury) for an entire year. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, where its blessings are multiplied. Yet Saturn and Neptune are squaring the Sun-Moon-Jupiter, whipping things into a frenzy just prior to the nation’s July 4 birthday. Blessings may be difficult to see, and going on faith might be necessary. … it’s apt to be a highly emotional and sensitive time.
This lunation is also sextile Mars in earthy, detail-oriented Virgo, which can help us create a plan and get things done. Yet the square from Saturn and Neptune in Aries makes it difficult (yet essential) to part the veil, eliminate distractions and do what’s necessary. A new dream wants to arise, on the personal as well as collective level, as an old one is dying. Cancer is a sign of new birth, and especially for those of us with planets in that sign, Jupiter’s activation can help us move beyond the past and embrace something new.
Meanwhile, it’s a good time to ask yourself what patriotism means to you. Is it a matter of “My country, right or wrong?”
Or perhaps it’s more about loyalty to kin or the broader family of man/woman. What are you prepared to support, even to death if need be? … At this New Moon, feel into whatever you’re called to defend, nurture or deeply love. And let’s call upon Lord Jupiter to bless and protect us all, as these tumultuous times unfold.”
Stephaine N.Campos, the astrologer who writes for the newsletter, Well & Good, has these words for us to contemplate. She writes:
“The new moon in Cancer on June 25 asks you to start fresh. You’re letting go of the past so you can create space for new opportunities and people to find you. This can also coincide with developments regarding your living situation or within your chosen family, too.
Overall, and despite the excitement associated with the expansion of gifts and possibilities, the over-arching emphasis and focal points are very Cancerian- home, family, mother… and the willingness to tend and care for others in your world. While this might not reflect directly on our national priorities, we do have to remember that whatever shifts and changes we would like to see in our world begin locally, in our towns and neighborhoods and then expand outward. This new moon encourages that caring for one another a one large human family and that it can be be expressed in your own town or across your own backyard!
Celestial Blessings, Peter
