The Full Moon in December 2025
December 4th, 2025, at 8:14 PM EST
Sun at 13 Sag; Moon at 13 Gemini
Square the Nodes;Grand Trine in Water
Welcome to the Cold Moon! In many parts of our country, winter has already arrived, and with that premature frosty reminder, we are given the task of providing the warmth of the season for one another. As we brace ourselves for the onslaught of our cultural and materialistic obsession we call “Christmas!”
Let us consider, instead, the value of shared warmth. Not that I am opposed to buying gifts or expressing one’s caring through gifts, I am reminded of Emerson’s statement that says the “best gift one can give another is yourself.”
The week’s full moon comes to us on the 4th, and with it the qualities of Gemini and the value of communication and the expression of ideas that
hold meaning and purpose for us.
When we are dealing with any full moon we remember that it is the message of reconciling opposites or dealing with the contrasting energies of two opposing signs. Both Gemini (Mercury) and Sagittarius (Jupiter) enjoy dialogue, discussion, and discovery and can make their contrasting pair fill the air with words and ideas- from the very mundane and repetitive to the more lofty philosophical considerations, those who have Geminis or Sags in their lives will have their ears filled!
In short, this week’s energies- from the 2nd to the 7th have either a cacophony of noises or a symphony of sound for us to listen to or tune out and avoid!
As a variety of astrologers agree , this week could begin with a verberating mixture of ideas, statements, investigations, hearings, and other claims that will vie for our attention! Here is what author and astrologer, Kathy Biehl has to say about this situation. She observes:
The noise level rises on December 4 at the Gemini Full Moon. Minds and mouths are running every which way. Your higher self is whispering amid the hubbub. Note which thought loops and conversation topics have run their course; watch for the ones that are kind, compassionate, creative, and point to the kind of world you want to experience.
And then the waters surge again, December 6 and 7, in a grand finale of the grand trine that has occurred again and again since October. This flow has escalated issues of nurturing, food, authority, limitations, delusion, empathy, secrets, corruption, taxes, and money, as it has connected Jupiter in Cancer and Saturn/Neptune in Pisces to a parade of bodies moving through Scorpio.
Before we get more deeply into our discussion of the moon, there are some corresponding or corroborating aspects that also fill this week and give it a distinctive sound or resonance for us.
This planetary prelude begins with the pleasant yet probing sextile between Venus and Pluto on the 2nd to the 4th. Being a sextile of Sagittarius to Aquarius, it is filled with curiosity and change; there could be a desire to change one’s appearance or redecorate one’s surroundings; simply to try on something new as a way of welcoming the deeper changes that will come in the new year. Just be sure not to get carried away with your sentimental choices for color, shape and design and allow the more powerful Pluto to make the changes: going bald; big tattoos; tearing up what cannot be replaced, drilling holes in the wall, etc.
During this week, and particularly during the day of the full moon, when any feelings that have not yet been expressed will arrive, and can froth or can bubble to the surface with affection, surprise, or alarm- depending on which feelings are being shown to you! Words will not be able to convey the whole picture or the depth of feelings. Kinestics or body language will also be more accurate and acute!
Another author and astrological commentator, Lynn Huges, provides us with a description of another important aspect that is outside the trine but has an influence on us because it involves Chiron, who is likely to provide us with visceral lessons. She writes:
“Jupiter transits can liberate us from situations that we thought we wanted to stay in. Bad marriages, difficult jobs – these often will end under a strong transit of Jupiter.
Currently Jupiter is in a challenging square aspect to Chiron, the planet of wounding and healing. Chiron’s role is to reveal any unhealed wounds so that they can be released, and then follow up with an infusion of natural wisdom which helps us to then help others. … With the challenging square aspect of Jupiter to Chiron, any painful memories or emotions can feel larger than life as they emerge into consciousness. Feelings from the present situations can activate old painful memories to finally be released. This isn’t easy, but it may be essential in order to be freed from the bondage of old patterns….
On the global level the requirement is the same: until world leaders are able to go to the source of the conflict and reveal the pain that lies beneath (the Chironic process), peace will never come.”
April Elliot Kent gives us another factor that influences this week and can be descriptive of the energies and possibilities that are present. She reminds us about the dynamic effects of the squares to the Nodes.
While the Moon’s square on the full moon, that next day, the 5th, it is the Sun’s turn.Given the power and energy of the Sun, it is, to my consideration, a more influential event. Here is what she pens as she describes this square aspect:
“This week, the Sun in Sagittarius squares the Moon’s nodes in Pisces and Virgo (Dec. 5, 2025, A planet square the nodal axis is said to be “at the bendings,” applying its focus toward either the North or South Node. The Sun is now at the South bending, meaning it’s pointing toward the South Node in Virgo and focused on releasing patterns of criticism and preoccupation with details. You may feel the need for quiet, and the inward call to release these unhelpful tendencies, even if it may feel difficult to make outward changes.
This aspect marks the midpoint between two eclipse seasons. Eclipses are changing points, page turners in the narrative that shifts us from one end of the nodal axis to the other. Now is the time to let go of what you don’t need, maybe things that you became aware of at the Sep. 7, 2025 lunar eclipse (15º Pisces/Virgo); a kind of spiritual yard sale to prepare you for the upcoming eclipses that occur next year on Feb. 17 (28º50’ Aquarius) and March 3, 2026 (12º53’ Virgo).”
As I peer into the latter days of this month, I can observe that it acts or appears to us to be a threshold to the future. Being the last month of 2025, it carries with it all the pent up anxieties of the past year, and holds on to some of the anticipatory apprehensions about the months to come- especially because it has been widely outlined as 2026 being a pivotal if, not a breaking point year … December, even at its beginnings, is a month where we can feel divided, like the saying that we can have “one foot in one boat” and there will be a distinct need to jump to one or the other side in order to maintain our balance. It is also a month that could be seen as an ornate door that stands before us and that has a window and a lock… the window asks us to look through with a sense of positive anticipation, but it is clouded with speculations and doubts. The door remains anxiously locked, until the aspects of the new moon through the time of the Solstice gives us the key that gives us access to those energies and possibilities.
Now lets focus on the full moon herself… Well, in this particular consideration, it is the full moon AND the aspects of the next few days that can act synergistically.
Remembering that there is a Grand Water trine happening, there will be an emphasis on how your mind and your emotions will blend or contend with each other. Because this full moon is located in mutable signs, both Gemini and Sagittarius can be overly stimulated by words, ideas, and many forms of social stimulation! The task during this week is to sort out and discern what sounds, what voices, what sources of information are worthwhile or deserving of your attention and time; there are so many to choose from, yet, IF we are calm enough to discern which ones truly are speaking to us, then we can learn quickly and learn well! The other side of this moon, being mutable, is the flow of feeling that can accompany all this mental chatter. It will be our shared challenge to slow our minds down to allow our feelings to surface in ways that can be better expressed and understood.
As the research group, Astrobutterfly puts it; “Mercury in Scorpio trine Jupiter and Saturn just “knows” what makes sense and what doesn’t. Mercury becomes the translator of what we’ve been feeling but couldn’t quite name. “That” feels right. “This” is what I need. This is a grand water trine, so it’s meant to be experienced.
There’s no need to look outside for direction. What you’re feeling now IS the direction.”
