Sun & Moon at 28 Capricorn
7 Planets in a wide conjunction!
Mars & Mercury at 26;
Venus at 1 Aquarius; Pluto at 3!
Sun/Moon Trine Uranus
Wow!
What a significant and powerful arrangement of close synergistic energies!
This new moon offers us an array of energies and effects to apply, sort out and comprehend… Most of them are positive or promising! The planets involved are:
- Mars is at 26° Capricorn
- Mercury is at 26° Capricorn
- Moon is at 28° Capricorn
- Sun is at 28° Capricorn
- Venus is at 1° Aquarius
- Pluto is at 3° Aquarius
The new moon often invites us into change; It leads us towards expressing our creativity or welcoming new beginnings when we can adopt new outlooks, start new outlets or begin new ways to enter into our lives more fully! Another way to understand this moon cycle is that IF you have a decision to make, this could well be the best time to make it!
In this assessment, let’s look at what other astrologers have to say and what their insights can offer us…
The teaching and research group, astrobutterfly, writes these observations for us:
“This is not your usual New Moon; this New Moon is literallyconjunct all the personal planets + Pluto. This is a 6-planet stellium New Moon – an “all hands on deck” lunation that interconnects every single layer of our life.”
The geometry of this New Moon is spectacular. The chart of the New Moon is one large Minor Sextile, with 6 planets conjunct sextiling Saturn and Neptune, and trining Uranus.
If you were looking for a good time to plant long-term seeds, this is it. It really doesn’t get more supportive than that. With that being said, keep in mind that New Moons are times of seeding – not manifestation. So the invitation here is to plan, design, and dream in alignment with your FUTURE. … . This is NOT a time for “I want this now” – it’s a time for “I’m building this for where I’m going”.
… All these planets create a bridge between the old world (last degrees of Capricorn) and the new (first degrees of Aquarius). Capricorn is what we’ve been building over the past decades; Aquarius is what comes next – the new world we’re stepping into.
This is a threshold New Moon – and if you haven’t done it already, THIS is the right time to write your New Year’s resolutions, or plan for the future. … because the astrology rarely matches the calendar. It might be January 1st on paper, but the Moon could be waning, or we could be dealing with heavy or disruptive transits that have nothing to do with fresh starts.
Teacher and astrologer, April Elliot Kent, offers another perspective that aligns with new beginnings. She offers this helpful correction concerning calendars and timing. She advises:
“Despite what the calendar says, the Capricorn New Moon (Jan. 18, 2026, 11:52 am PST, 28º43’ Capricorn) is the best time for making resolutions. And not just for 2026; each New Moon begins a new Lunar Phase Gestation cycle that unfolds over several years – which is plenty of time to do important things.
This New Moon point is in a trine aspect to Uranus, the planet of awakening, and it’s custom made for reworking old patterns and giving ourselves over to new inspiration and change. And its sextiles to Saturn and Neptune, preparing to leave mystical Pisces, seem connected to the New Moon’s Sabian 29 Capricorn, A woman reading tea leaves. We think of Capricorn as strictly practical, but it’s got a spiritual side, as well. At this New Moon, pursue what’s important to you..”
As a core principle, both Cancer and Capricorn want security, stability and in that security and stability they arrive at peace, contentment, and safety.
While desirable, it might not be possible… for a variety of reasons and some of them as outside the locus of our personal control , so we will have to accept or cope with their instability- knowing that change, especially worthwhile change, takes both time and perseverance.
“Capricorn helps us set goals that are ambitious, yet achievable – because unlike some other signs, Capricorn always has a plan. Not only intentions and wishful thinking – but concrete steps, structure, and a realistic path to actually get there.”
When there’s this level of alignment, all planets agree on the purpose. This is when we mobilize all our wants, needs, resources, and drive toward the same goal – without internal sabotage, mixed signals, or second-guessing.The Sun is our purpose.
It’s literally the center of the universe – at least of our universe, i.e. solar system – and everything that sustains life, movement, and direction stems from the Sun.
In the Capricorn context, it becomes a symbolic sign for understanding the larger role we’re meant to play in the world. Capricorn – together with Aquarius and Pisces – is the final stretch of the zodiac, where consciousness naturally zooms out toward the bigger picture. Here, the questions are no longer just about work, relationships, or getting by. They become questions of calling, purpose, and contribution.”
One of the major keys to understanding a more full or wide ranging possibilities for this new moon is held in the energy of the trine aspect to the planet Uranus.
Generally speaking, the trine is one of the most positive and powerful aspects in astrology.here we have, along with all the closely aligned planets to the Sun and Moon, the signature energy of this moon cycle is one of preparation… getting ready for the year that is to come!
Why not action..now? Astrologers such as Rick Levine point to the signs that the planets are in; Earth… where we plant the seeds for our future growth, change, development… This insight keeps any sense of panic or alarm at bay… despite the headlines in our world! As Thoreau once put is, “[it is good to build castles in the air, but now is the time to put foundations under them!]” Now is our foundation building time so whatever we build, be it a castle or a government, be it a life of health and well being, or any other prized goal, requires us to lay down , on the earth, a sold and secure Capricornian foundation in our to have any trust or reliability for our plans or lofty ideals… Later in this month, we will have a leveling, or a brick laying quality of Saturn that will assist in stabilizing and solidifying any changes or shifts that we will have in this moon phase…
The caveat is obvious… This prep time does not happen in isolation or without corollary that can appear as active, even aggressive in promoting eventual and future changes… As I have learned over the years of counseling, ministry and chart reading work with many others, there is an awful/awesome reality that attends to change: often, if not always, there is a need for some kind of a breakdown before there is a breakthrough!
So that days after this new moon-18th-20th could be troublesome, while also being galvanizing and add to the eventual readiness for new realities breaking forth in 2026-28 for our lives and our society.
