Sun at 13 degrees of Aquarius; Moon at 13 degrees of Leo
Sun conjunct Venus & Part of Fortune; Moon opposes them
Jupiter Quincunx the Sun; Mars conjunct Pluto
Quite an energetic beginning to the month! This Leo moon wants to undoubtedly express herself in a variety of ways. Given that this full moon contains many oppositions, we can expect to see…and feel more contrary and supplementary feelings and actions; energies and actions that will tend to be more vivid and more actively present in our lives.
She desires us to see our lives clearly and fully; in pain and in pleasure; in creativity and in rest… the forecast is not just for snow; there will be upsets, and there will be breakthroughs… Welcome to this full moon!
I often start with a summary provided by Lena of the Shamanic school,
Because she provides us with an overview of the moon or the month to come. Here is here synopsis for this Leo moon. She writes:
“This is a passionate, self-expressive full moon that can test our levels of confidence and question our self-esteem, but ultimately lead to a new level of inner leadership and power. Authenticity, authentic intention,s and expression are key. There is a rebellious quality to the energy, especially around issues that are not truly aligned with who you are. This is a time of personal growt,h and it is best not to get distracted by external chaos and rebellion but rather look inward to where your personal inner revolution might be headed.
Bringing in an energy of fun, play, and celebration is also important, as it will support whatever process you are in through a higher vibration. It’s a potent time, so pay attention, be present, allow emotions to pass through, continue to let go of the old, and keep embracing the magic of what is possible just around the corner.”
An additional factor when discussing any full moon is to mention what house the Moon is located in, which will often be determined by latitude or longitude for your city or location. In this chart, for my location in Charleston, the moon is located in the 1st house, the rising sign or the ascendant. This placement adds to how personal this moon could be; because it focuses on our persona or our personalities, it has the capacity to shine or could cloud a greater understanding of who we are on a more surface or psycho-social level. This emphasis lends itself to a sensitivity about who we are and a more zealous attunement to who we are with and what is being said to us or about us! So please be clear and kind!
Simone Butler, writing in Mooncircles newsletter, adds these poignant words for our more serious consideration. She writes:
“February is the month to envision a new future and join with others to make it happen. Let this Full Moon inspire you to defend what’s sacred. As Jessica Hauser requests of us, “Please honor my friend Alex Pretti by standing up for peace. He would remind you that caring for others is hard work, and we must do whatever it takes to get through the long shifts. Step outside with your dog, breathe in the world, hike or bike as he loved to do, and let yourself find peace in the quiet moments. Stand up for justice and speak with those whose views differ from your own. Hold your beliefs with strength, but always extend love outward, even in the face of adversity. Take one step, no matter how small, to help heal our world. Through these acts, carry his light forward in his name. Let his legacy continue to heal.”
Because this Moon is located at 13 degrees, the impact or importance of its energies and effects will be more likely to be felt or experienced by any of us who have planets in and around 13 degrees; this is especially true in the square or the opposition aspects, or if you have planets in Taurus, Scorpio, and Aquarius.
So, first, be sure to locate the moon and find where Leo is… Then, if you want a “heads up” on its possible intensity or importance, that can come from where these three signs are and if you have planets located in them….
As a personal example, I have Mars in Aquarius, in opposition, so it would be wise that I practice being more careful or be more deliberate. That is, refrain from any mechanical or impulsive energetic actions such as driving- especially if I want to go fast!, working with power tools, electricity, or as a whole, taking risks in a variety of ways. So with this cautionary advice, I will stay home and enjoy my snow days
Possibly the most important aspect during this time comes from the day and time that Mars conjoins Pluto. It is an aspect that can happen only every 2 years or so, and it holds a message for us concerning will and intention, power and force.
Starting with the energies and effects of the full moon, we will begin to experience the direct influences of the Mars to Pluto conjunction that happens on the 2nd.
Here is what astrologer Lynn Hayes describes as the energy and possible effects of this conjunction. She writes:
“Last week, we discussed the five planets in Aquarius, which one by one tapped into the power of Pluto for seismic transformation. Pluto’s job is to break down the superficial constructs that we build with our ideas of what is true, and to reveal the real Truth that lies beneath these ideas, hopes, and fantasies.
We’ve known for a long time that the transition of the outer planets into new signs would create major shifts in global consciousness, and that means shifts in global politics too. Neptune enters Aries on Monday this week, and the gloves come off under the fire of Aries, but the enemies are hidden and not always evident with Neptune. This is not ideal in a time of global instability, especially with Mars conjunct Pluto this week. The conjunction from Mars (Will and aggression) to Pluto (power and intensity). This conjunction is always a challenging one and tempers may be high so we will want to be mindful and present even in the face of conflict from others. Aquarius is a fixed sign of power, and there is a stubborn and unyielding quality to Mars in Aquarius that will be on display today and tomorrow. This will be most intense early in the week, and then a milder replay will occur on the weekend.”
A last consideration is that the planet, Uranus, will move directly on the 3rd… It is his own erratic fashion, this will begin his slow march towards an arrival in May, when he crosses the threshold into Gemini. This next time period-from may to September, we will get a glimpse or a tasst of what he will be offering to us through next year. He goes retrograde in September and then finally permanently forward into Gemini next February 2027! Astrologer and writer Elisabeth Grace has these introductory comments about what to expect from Uranus moving forward. She writes:
“Speaking of breakthrough potential, note that Uranus is now slowing to a virtual standstill, preparing to turn direct on Tuesday, February 3rd. Watch for seismic action, revolutions, tech breakthroughs, news involving aviation and astrology — some of which may involve people losing their heads — because Uranus is currently sitting on Algol, the fixed star associated with decapitation.”
Who is going to lose his or her head? Remember that astrology is best when it is not taken literally, but as a guideline to your own self-knowledge. While we could expect drastic things to happen as a part of the wide potentials that are possible, it’s best to consider these possibilities and potentials, especially about the ancient interpretations of the fixed stars; it may be wiser to be more metaphorical…and yet…
From my upcoming book that looks at each of the degrees of the zodiac and includes an alternative approach to the fixed stars, I give classical definitions and contemporary ones; here is a portion of what I wrote about the fearsome star, Algol:
“Algol, Beta Persei, 26°18′ Taurus, the Head of Medusa (Caput Medusae), from Al-Ghul, the monster or the devil: this star brings about woes, violence, brutality and cruelty…. Losing one’s head or losing one’s mind over something! Strangulation, beheading; health dangers to the throat and neck;… passionate; intense; hysterical.”
So you can see that there is plenty of room for a variety of interpretations!
Uranus has been transiting this star for quite a while. We have seen the breakdown of laws and rules, and the disregard for fairness and justice. There is a desire to replace the head of state or whoever is in command, or anyone who has decision-making power…
In my next report, I will comment on the Chinese New Year of the Horse, and how that correlates with all this Aquarian energy being expressed and released. It is advised to use the last days of the Sake Year to release anything you are holding too tightly, and that constricts your sense of freedomand health. By releasing on the emotional levels, you will prepare yourself for the year of the horse, and ride into the future with more confidence, trust, and zeal!
