Mercury Turns Direct!

Welcome to a transformative week and the beginnings of Spring!

The planets continue their journey through the last days of Pisces- emotions, intuitions, dreams- and begin their march into Aries- light, camera, action! Expect your dreams to be vivid messengers, and your intuition to be at its peak! Allow and learn from these messages as they can convey deep truths about your life!

In a break from many of my other reports, I will not cover the many aspects and the activities leading up to this new moon, as they are a past and lingering dynamic since Mercury turns direct on the 21st!) And while staying mindful of mental interruptions, electrical snafus, and some misunderstandings, etc., they last throughout the week and are sitting in the background and could be active and reflected through this moon period.

With that said, let’s move right into commentaries on the new moon, with the acknowledgement that Spring follows close behind!

Whenever we speak about Pisces traits, we have to acknowledge and spiritually accept that Pisces is and always will be a living paradox! As a whole concern, it can include both a sense of the ending of the year, and (hopefully) the end of a cold winter, being that it is the last sign in the Zodiac…

However, with this new moon, it also signals a brand new beginning for all the Piscean areas of life: from the mundane places and concerns such as schools, hospitals, prisons, monasteries, etc, down to the deeply personal intimacy of our intuitions and dreams when the inner you speaks loudly!

The selfless and /or the transcendental qualities are the key to understanding what can be noted in all of these areas, because, in a mystical sense, Pisces represents the one in the all, and the all in the one!

Here is one account that takes in this more inclusive and embracive concept from the writings of astrologer and teacher, April Elliot Kent. She writes:

“Endings and letting go are a process. This is the New Moon to initiate that process, and it begins with letting go of pretense and saying the truth. Each New Moon can have a shelf life, not just of 29 days, but of three years, thanks to the Lunar Phase Family Cycle. We step out onto the precipice here and begin a long, slow fall – and this New Moon is very much about how we handle this process.

And what a Pisces New Moon this is, with the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars and the Moon’s North Node all in this sign – and the Sun and Moon in a tight conjunction with Neptune in Aries! What you are, what you feel and think, your worldly plans, your spiritual core – they’re all holding hands and preparing for the leap.

Still retrograde in Pisces, Mercury pipes up with a stream of questions, outbursts of curiosity, and distractions. How to fall into a dream of release when a magpie is squawking in your ear?”

Another contrasting, or if you prefer, complementary view comes from master Astrologer, Rick Levine, who enjoys taking the larger view when describing these cycles of meaning and movement. He writes:

“The Pisces New Moon represents the last gasp of an outdated system that is trying to maintain power as it melts into the future. Thankfully, the Sun and Moon form cooperative sextiles to an electrified Uranus, revealing the hidden excitement about the positive potential of our current trajectory, even if current events don’t appear to support such a hopeful endpoint.

Also contributing to the intensity of this lunation, Chiron the Teacher conjoins Eris the Sower of Discord on March 19. This alignment occurs every 54 years, marking moments in history when events stir up significant chaos, which can ultimately lead to the healing of old wounds.

We are being guided, even pushed, by circumstances to accept that something big is coming to an end, even though we can find ourselves grappling with the uncertainty of what may lie around the next bend.

Nevertheless, we may still try to hold onto past illusions while rational Mercury continues its retrograde motion in romantic Pisces until March 20 when it turns direct. While backstepping, the Winged Messenger prompts us to reconsider previous decisions, revise old plans, and re-envision our dreams of the future. The 20th is also the Spring Equinox (at 7:45 am PDT) in the Northern Hemisphere, the moment the Sun leaves the mystical depths of Pisces to enter the creative realms of Aries—a cosmic double whammy of progress.

However, this equinox is unique because the Sun conjuncts idealistic Neptune on March 22, unleashing our imaginations, and then runs into realistic Saturn on the 25th, enforcing limits and demanding accountability.”

What all this activity presents to us is the potential and potencies of such reactions… but the challenge is found in its raw impulses or its incompleteness- that the guidance and the awareness necessary to direct those actions in their more positive and productive ways might be lacking!

As Pisces has long been regarded as one of the most spiritual of the astrological signs, it is not uncommon, especially at this new moon, to begin a devotional or spiritual practice that helps to center one’s being while opening one’s heart…

One of the most well-known “deities” or feminine religious and spiritual symbols who has had, in recent times, a wider interfaith appeal, is the Buddhist goddess known as Kwan Yin- the goddess of compassion and healing grace.

Simone Butler, an astrologer and spiritual advisor, writing in the Mooncircles newsletter, offers us a “snapshot” of the meaning behind the Piscean energies of compassion in her description of Kwan Yin, also known as Guanyin… in these words:

“As a water deity, Guanyin aligns with the flowing Pisces New Moon (March 18, 6:23 p.m. PT). And, in these uncertain times of division and war, we need her solace more than ever. Hopefully, this lunation will bring some relief after the recent destabilizing Mars square Uranus and Saturn conjunct Neptune transits.

This is a wonderful time to go inward, dream, and heal. Still, we may not be able to fully find our footing – or the clarity to move forward – until sometime after Mercury turns direct March 20 at the Equinox, when the Sun charges into spirited, fresh-start Aries to begin the astrological new year. Meanwhile, next Wednesday, as the Sun and Moon join at 28 degrees of Pisces in an exact sextile to Uranus in Taurus, watch for flashes of insight or unexpected developments that help you heal, release, or complete something quickly. ,,,

At this lunation, let Guanyin help you heal and comfort yourself or the world at large. Create an altar with an image of her, a glass of water, and some flowers. Call in her compassionate presence by chanting Om Ma Ni Pad Me Hum. As you sip some water, imagine healing for all. Guanyin is particularly attuned to the vulnerable hearts of children in distress, so include them in your prayers. If you practice qigong, bring Guanyin into your flow sequence to enhance your adaptability to change. With Guanyin’s support, you can hone your ability to remain centered, grounded, and compassionate in these unpredictable times.”

We are in the time of seasonal transition that has its emphasis on a warming energy, but it also coincides with a new warming of the soulful energies and a preview of the growth and changes that are to come. As the Zodiac begins again in Aries. We have to be able to bridge the last vestiges of the darker, more subtle, and interior world that Pisces provides and to make ourselves ready and willing to welcome the fiery energies of Spring!

On the 19th, the Moon precedes the Sun and moves into Aries and quickly connects to both Neptune and Saturn, who have just begun their own new cycles around the Zodiac; Neptune circles approximately every 155 years (!) while Saturn has more emphasis on speed, and takes approximately 50 years to make the journey…

For this day and time, Neptune was asking us to listen more attentively and to acknowledge both what ideas and ideals have been left behind, what dreams you have yet to decipher, and what ways of interior life need your attention and support. Saturn, in contrast, advises, and some would say, warns you to put a stable foundation on anything you want to change, any place you want to go or explore. Saturn gives you boundaries, and you will have, while he is inAries, more freedom within those ethical boundaries to learn and row…

As we welcome the Equinox and its desire to regain any lost sense of balance or perspective that we had endured, the move into Aries can urge us forward in the pursuit of our goals. Because both Mercury and previous to this week, Jupiter were retrograde, do not be surprised that after Mercury turns direct, something will explode or come to your mind, or appear in your awareness quickly and dramatically as it was held back for so long!

As a summary of what to expect, what to look for, what to guard against, what insightful blessings this time can hold for us, Lena of the Shamanic School gives us these reflections:

“This is truly a time of new beginnings and, in order to take advantage of the opportunity for a big reset, several things need to be considered. Are you still holding on to an old dream? Are you acknowledging what you need to let go of before moving into a new landscape in your life? This is a fertile time to focus on what is possible instead of regretting the past or feeling ambivalent about the future.

This is actually an exciting time to be inspired, to think of bringing more magic and spiritual gifts into your life. Be open to new relationships that are not on the same page as you and be discerning about putting up with relationships that may drag you into a karmic quagmire. In some ways, there is a sorting hat at work here. If something is not aligned, it will fail. If it is aligned, it will succeed.

Be careful what you ask for during this time, as the portal to manifesting is pretty wide open. Make sure your intentions come from the heart and are aligned with what you personally have a passion for.

This equinox is significant as a real reset point. Take some time and discipline to reflect on what in your life needs to be reset and what steps you need to take to either release what is in the way or to have the courage to go for a change. We move into Aries, a fire sign, and Mercury goes direct, giving this time a boost of energy that can either overwhelm and derail you or anchor you into a good flow towards your physical, emotional, and spiritual path. We always recommend a ritual where you honor the change of seasons by burning or burying some things you write down that you wish to release, as well as making a new list of intentions of what you wish to manifest. Be careful what you ask for!
