Welcome to a more Martian Full Moon! Mars is the key or most important planetary player in this week’s very active moon cycle, and it will influence the overall energetic patterns and potentials of the week! So, right away, you can look for where Mars in Libra lands in your chart… (1-2 degrees +-) You will quickly see how it could affect you by what house it is in… and be able to decipher more of what these commenters have written…
As the major influence in this moon cycle-extending itself from Saturday through Monday, when Mercury returns to is forward direction. April Elliot Kent is an astrologer and cultural commenter, who gives us this overview of Mars in Libra. She writes:
Mars enters Libra this week (Aug. 6, 4:23 pm PDT), and proceeds to aspect Saturn (frustrated goals), Uranus (inspiring breakthroughs), Neptune (compassionate, inspired actions), and Pluto (harnessing power), all between Friday and Sunday. Normally, Mars working overtime like this would make for a very volatile week; but in Libra, the god of war masks his cantankerous side. Just because Mars doesn’t carry a saber, though, doesn’t mean that there isn’t war going on beneath the surface.
I’ve been enjoying this season of HBO’s The Gilded Age, in which breathtaking gowns and elegant manners barely conceal the ruthlessness of Mrs. Russell, Mrs. Astor, Mrs. Van Rhijn, and company. Mars in Libra can be the classic iron fist in a velvet glove. It’s still Mars – still wants what it wants, and pursues it unapologetically; but its smooth charm makes it all look more like dancing than boxing.”
A less poetic or fanciful outlook is presented by the research group, Astrobutterfly, who sees the Mars entry into Libra as a calling card to self exploration and change. They write:
As soon as it enters Libra, Mars applies a record number of aspects: an opposition to Saturn, a trine to Uranus, another opposition to Neptune, a trine to Pluto, and a sextile to Mercury – which are all in early degrees of their signs.
“All these aspects are interconnected, forming a rare configuration called “Envelope” – a Mystic Rectangle with an added Minor Grand Trine. An Envelope is a dynamic, highly integrated configuration suggesting a strong drive to act and make a difference.
In an Envelope, we have the tension of the oppositions pushing us to get out there and break through inertia, but also the harmony of the sextiles and trines to provide context, flow, and perspective. We don’t just take any kind of action – we take deliberate, well-timed action that clicks into place like a puzzle piece in a larger design. Mars in Libra, as the activating lever of the Envelope, helps us respond to what’s been building these past months with intention – so our actions actually land, and move us toward something that matters.”
Now, switching our focus to the full moon herself…
Leah of the Shamanic School gives us a summary of these energies, with an emphasis on self-care and simplicity. She writes:
“This Full Moon opens a window of going inward to listen, heal and realign, using creativity, imagination, truth and inspiration. Use discipline to guard against judgment and projection. Take time to honor yourself, do some self-care and reflect on what you value. This is also a time when the feminine energy of creativity and beauty is important to acknowledge and use as you move towards more simplicity and ease. How can you uncomplicate your life? How can you strengthen your connections to others in a more authentic way? What needs healing in your relationship with yourself?”
Stay in your own lane, set good boundaries, and move towards what feels right instead of what you think you ought to be responsible for in your life.
Key: You will be more likely to be affected by this moon IF you have planets 16-18 degrees of Leo, Aquarius and/or the other two fixed signs, Taurus and Scorpio, as thee is a heightened tension that can be experienced there.
Because there are no intervening or complementary aspects (within a 3 degree orb) to this full moon, it is an opportunity to review the descriptions that astrologers call “polarities.” A polarity is the dynamic opposite, across the horoscope, or the sign that is 180 degrees from your Sun sign.
In this case, or for this moon, it is Leo and the opposite sign of Aquarius. Traditionally and historically, they are assigned to the 5th and 11th houses in a chart.
The way we perceive polarities is crucial to their understanding, application and impotence. At first glance, the emphasis on these two signs can be seen as antagonistic; they also can be seen as supplementary; Be comprehended very quickly as the challenging and irritating opposite view of life than yours OR the contrasting emphasis and energies can be understood as being a beneficial supplement that would provide you with the information, traits, and qualities etc., that you have lacked, ignored, or karmically need to learn the necessary lessons for both psychic balance and societal progress!
Each of the polarities has been given descriptive names. In this case, the Leo/Aquarius pair, it is the Self vs. The Community. Known widely as the most self-directed, self-conscious, and self-centered sign who is capable of high achievement due to that more singular focus. This is in stark contrast to Aquarius who preoccupation is society; culture; progress; and benevolent change towards the future for all humankind!
Next, let’s begin to focus on this particular moon…
The Aquarian moon has its own distinctions and sense of uniqueness. It requires us to integrate what our personal sense of truth might be with the larger societal context, as its principal aim is to be a agent of change and to be in service to humankind.
April Elliot Kent offers us her insights concerning this moon and notes about how opposites can help to balance, complete, and supplement each other… She writes:
“While the Full Moon flickers incandescently in Aquarius (Aug. 9, 2025, 12:55 am, at 16º59 Aquarius), the Sun is in Leo – the sign that rules the heart, both medically and metaphorically, pumping life-giving blood, love, and creative zeal into the body of humanity. It’s the sign of the artist, the writer, the performer, whose ability to give voice to a creative vision requires a sturdy platform of routine, solitude, and healthy self-regard. But physically, the heart can’t continue to pump blood without the circulatory system – ruled by Aquarius – that disperses the blood throughout the body and returns it to the heart. And metaphorically, our reserves of creative inspiration and love are soon exhausted without an “audience” to circulate our creations and return love and inspiration to us.
Where do you find your inspiration? On the face of it, it seems like a question only for artists. What could possibly be creative, we wonder, about getting the kids ready for school or finishing a boring monthly report for work? But is creativity confined to weekend watercolor workshops and writing seminars? Do we have to be Frida Kahlo to be considered an artist?
We’re not all Sun sign Leos, of course, just as we don’t all identify as artists; but we’ve all got the Sun somewhere in our charts, and we’ve all got Leo and its creative urges tucked away in a house of the horoscope. Somewhere inside you is a divine flame of creativity that flares up when you’re excited about a project – whether you’re building a family website, selecting a new color scheme for the dining room, or crafting a custom bookshelf in your workshop. Sometimes the creativity rises slowly, like an errant spark from a dormant, smoldering campfire; other times it’s a lightning bolt of inspiration that awakens the creative flame. And sometimes – usually when your life has become too predictable and insular – it’s impossible to muster any inspiration at all.
Aquarius represents the element of the fresh and unexpected that, like lightning, keeps life exciting – circulating your creative ideas and returning the life-giving blood of inspiration straight to your heart. It can be intimidating to share your creations with an unpredictable, often faceless “audience”; what if you’re rejected? But the Leo/Aquarius ideal is a balance between the personal vision of the individual and the shared vision of the collective; like the heart and the circulatory system, each is essential to the vitality of the other.
At this Full Moon in Aquarius, a lightning bolt of inspiration is headed your way. Just as an artist occasionally receives unfavorable reviews, not all of the feedback you receive for your efforts will be positive. Perhaps your creative landscape has been deprived of nourishment and has turned a bit brittle? But even negative feedback, however uncomfortable, can be useful – it lets you know that either you haven’t been true to your vision, or you’re hanging out with the wrong crowd. Adjust accordingly – and keep your creative heart pumping.”
Elisabeth Grace, who has specialties in hoary astrology and who is an adept socio-political astrologer, offers us these comments on the fortunate placement of the Ascendant during this moon cycle, that is particularly significant on this coming Monday… She writes:
“Jupiter is on the Ascendant, projecting an expansive, exalted image of patriotism, perhaps. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, and Cancer rules home, homeland, mothers, and apple pie. It remains to be seen if a planet in its exalted state actually merits being put on a pedestal. It is no coincidence that less than 24 hours ago, transiting Jupiter met up with the US 13 Cancer Sun, just as Mars met up with the US MC. Action and expansion this weekend, in some form — likely in the courts, foreign affairs, and the media, reinforcing a shift in how we are seen.”
You’ll note that Venus is also in Cancer, on its way to a meet-up with Jupiter…if you have planets around 14 degrees of just about any sign, consider buying a couple of lottery tickets. Ya never know!
As a last consideration, let’s remember that when a planet slows to a stationary place before it moves forward, there is a concentration of energies that can be present and more acutely experienced. While Mercury is slowing down, being stationary and returning to forward motion on the 11th, it is still an influential player in the over mental and social spheres of life.
And based on what I have gleaned from other astrologers, this communication will deepen as Mercury encounters both Saturn and Neptune. It will act as part of the cosmic prelude to 2026, as the interplay of these three planets will begin to surface all the unmet needs of our humanity and our society. Then, in relationship to Pluto, there will be a rising insistence to more directly and more wholeheartedly address, solve, cure these imbalances, and soothe the wounds of the Ages that had repressed and denied them… Wow!
As these first steps emerge and gradually become better known, more conscious, and more influential as foundational to both hope and healing, we can see the value in being/becoming a mature, ethical warrior who marshals her/his energies that promote justice, equality and yes… peace.
Celestial Blessings, Peter
