The Full Moon in Scorpio May 1st, 2026 at 1:22 PM EDT Sun at 11 of Taurus; Moon at 11 of Scorpio Sun trine NN; Sextile SN; Moon sextile NN; Trine SN
What a power play to start this month! We often refer to May as the flower month- denoting its more gentle release from any hints of a lingering winter, and the expectant arrival of outdoor weather and the launch into the warmer months and the summer season…BUT maybe not this time!
You see, as we welcome in May, we often can happily celebrate the earthy sensuality of Beltane in the Pagan calendar, and allow our revels to teach us about the importance of the need for honoring the body and its gift of sensuality; we can learn about the ecstasy of life,, and the often overlooked spiritual quality of Joy!
Speaking of this more somatic and spiritual day, I have discovered that May 1st is also World Labyrinth Day! Use the Labyrinth Locator and make a radius search to find ones you can walk in your area… I have often found a contemplative walk to be soothing; releasing; quieting; and valuable insights! (I have a local list for the Charleston area…Write to me!)
Given that Scorpio has always been considered to be one of the most powerful signs, especially considering that it is the fixed water sign, we can anticipate an active time period where our emotions will be dominant and our feelings more acutely felt.
Scorpio is often seen as the most foreboding of zodiac signs; some old texts say the most dangerous, unlucky and karmic of signs… All unfair and hasty judgments to be sure! The ungracious and fearful projections can be seen as connecting to the worrisome topics that are under the Scopionic rule or influence: critical health & recovery; taxes and other people’s money
(inheritances) sexuality and its taboos. Maybe the ones most feared that are for reaping karma and the foretelling of any impending deaths or a crisis in health.
While these rulerships or topics are accurate to the sign, there is no need for any inordinate worry or feeling of despair… However, it is a safe assumption that the energies and activities of a full moon in Scorpio could initiate greater, more personally intense effects and a wider cultural sense of awareness about these areas of our lives…
Let’s begin our assessment of this moon’s influences with a summary given to us from Lena of the Shamanic school. Here what she has to say:
“Also known as the Flower Moon, this moon promotes balance between the physical, tangible aspects of life and the spiritual, mysterious, emotionally intuitive aspects of life. You may feel an internal pressure to explore your emotional truth, finally coming to terms with releasing something that has been in the way of your authentic self expression.
There is lots of support during this full moon time for stepping into your power and setting boundaries against what has disempowered you in the past, especially with regards to relationship dynamics. We are excited to face the future with all its amazing possibilities but at the same time we are feeling some nostalgia around what we know we need to release before moving forward.
It is a time where the theme of death and rebirth is alive and well. When something gets released there is space for the birth of a new idea, project, relationship, perspective, attitude, understanding, and way of being in the world. So wrap up those loose ends and strive for balance between what you give yourself and what you give others.”
NOTE: Before I add other voices and descriptions, I do want to remind anyone reading these reports that they are best understood when you know your horoscope, have your natal chart, and understand its symbols and its houses etc.
When my clients ask, I will provide this information and all of its charts etc., and I encourage you to discover yours so that you can get the most from these reports…
In this moon report, you will be more activated or influenced if you have planets or signs that are at 11 degrees; (+or -1-2 degrees) and if the planets and signs are square or opposed … in this case near the Taurus Sun and square at Aquarius or Leo… Where Scorpio is located in your chart will reveal the areas of life that might be the most activated/affected.
Next, where Pluto in Aquarius can be found and any aspects to the moon or Pluto might be primary.
Here is what the Astrobutterfly teaching group has to say about this energy and its alignments. They write:
“Whatever has been bottling up in your life will now erupt like a volcano, creating a much-needed clearing of the air. As with any Full Moon on the Taurus-Scorpio axis, themes of give-and-take come into focus. Who’s doing what? Who’s giving more? Who’s been keeping score? This is a moment to look at the balance of your exchanges with others. With Mercury conjunct Chiron, some of these conversations may touch old wounds, and that’s okay. Sometimes the eruption is also the healing.”
Robin, the weekly mundane and psychological astrologer I often read, gives us these words as guidelines. In her column, Wicked Audacity, she writes:
“Friday the Scorpio Full Moon has a “no more pretending” vibe. Something that has been buried, avoided, or quietly building may come into the open. Feelings can run hot, and people may be quicker than usual to act, confront, confess, cut something off, or show what they have been holding back.”
There is a strong push toward independence and direct action. That can be useful if something needs to change, but it can also make people impatient, or unwilling to compromise.
The part of the situation that wants peace, comfort, or stability may not arrive through one fixed answer. It may come through having options, changing the arrangement, keeping things lighter, or letting the situation stay movable for now.
This Full Moon is likely to show where pressure has built up. It favors clean decisions, firm boundaries, and cutting away what has become toxic, stale, or too difficult to keep around.
- Best for: Endings, separations, confrontations that have been postponed, decisive action, cutting ties.
- Potential Challenges: Aggression, conflict that escalates, isolation, impulsive decisions.”
A more philosophical and thoughtful way to understand the reach and depth of Scorpionic energies and their ultimate concerns comes from the pen and mind of April Elliot Kent. Here are her thoughts for us to ponder:
“Everyone deals with this knowledge in their own way. Some stockpile possessions. Others obsess about diet and fitness; surely there is some magic formula that will make us live forever. ….
Forever, humans have sought to decode the great mystery of death. We confront it when a loved one dies, childhood heroes appear in the obituary pages, or a health crisis brings the whole matter a little too close to home.
The Scorpio Full Moon highlights two truths: One is that, against all odds, each of us exists. And the other is that eventually, we won’t. Someday, we’ll walk off into the unknown, alone, naked, probably a bit frightened – without our possessions, …. Until then, enjoy the gift of now, and savor the mystery of what comes later.”
Arriving just after the full moon effects wane, on the 3rd we have Mercury entering into Taurus, and with that doorway being opened, we can allow our minds that were on overdrive in Aries, to rest; to sit back and assess where we have been in our thinking and communications, and what might need more information and polish to be complete. We can think about life, nature and taking care of our bodies more… A welcomed respite and change of focus!
There can be a collective sigh and a big exhale of pent-up mental anguish and upset…. For the past few months, or since the new year began, there has been an abundance of thought and mental energies being required of us to pay attention AND a lot of superfluous verbiage that distracts us from clearer thinking when it comes to understanding and expressing our ideals and ethical convictions. With Mercury now able to recoup and relax, a return to mental clarity and to more social sanity is in the offering! We can see a pressure release and more of a shift towards a less intense way of thinking by the middle of next week…
A last consideration comes with next weeks shift in direction by Pluto.
As it is with every planet that shifts direction and here Pluto begins to move “backward” in retrograde, there will be an emphasis or a distinct transformative energy that we can feel and experience in the area occupied by Pluto in Aquarius.
This can be important breakthroughs or breakdowns in technology, and it can signal a need for more cooperative responses to challenges our world faces– rather than any isolated actions that could rebound or recoil. It can assert or support a stronger call to the effects of community on the individual in service to social change…which to me, is a hopeful move that benefits us all!
Celestial Blessings,
