When Truth Comes
When the Spirit of Truth comes, [he] will guide you into all truth… [He] will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine, and making it is known to you.
John 16:13-14
Br. Teasdale offers us an explanation of these words b y first talking about their prophetic dimension and then shifting to how the text refers to our personal identities as children of God…
… It is the Spirit who also knows our identity and our relationship with the Father…
Resisting the He/She?It controversies concerning the Spirit, the main “takeaway” that I have from this text, and Brother Teasdale’s comments are that truth is available to us and that truth can come through us just as truth was received by Jesus and taught to the disciples through Jesus.
In short, we are also divine children who have the capacity to receive truth and inspiration, truth and revelation, truth as being a quality of soul that uplifts, encourages and heals us.
God is unselfish and ever available to us … Spirit as the “dynamis” of God, or God in the active voice and the present tense has come through Jesus as Scriptures attests, but maybe more vitally important for us, is that Spirit as Truth is readily available and latently active in every heart, every person who makes room for its appearing.
Revelation, be they of a prophetic kind or having a more mystical quality, requires the restful mind and the quiet heart to encourage its appearance to us and for us…
Not that such truth and inspiration cannot come to us in times of crisis, but that when looking at the qualities that encourage receptivity, being a more humble, simple, peaceful person increases the possibility of receiving inspiration and guidance.
