The Human Soul Is Divine
The human soul is divine. Every truth has its origin in God. When it is manifested in a [man] this is not because it comes from [him] but because[he] has such a quantity of transparency that [he] can reveal it.
Blaise Pascal Cited in Calendar of Wisdom
All too often or so it seems to me, we humans will readily trust what comes out of our minds and mouths as being the truth! It is, by definition, ours; It is personal to us and therefore becomes manifest through all the ego and subjective filters of consciousness we have or can recognize as ours. The result is our particular truth for this time and space, for this place in our lives, or for this rung on the ladder of awareness and consciousness.
Truth is often juxtaposed against any sense of this is THE TRUTH… What is true for any of us might not be true for all of us, and so the subjective reality of what is true is something that can be shared but not necessarily believed or trusted.
Remember the open question of Pontius Pilate,” What is Truth?” It is a perennial and perpetual question each of us has to answer for ourselves- especially when we are confronted by the adamant declarations of religious faith. (And maybe into questions of Law? Especially when religion shapes and connects itself to moral laws and wisdom teachings)
In my view, Pascal invites us into the quandary about truth by declaring that if something is true, accurate, and by implication that it is just and trustworthy, then its origin has to be divine. His mathematical orientation is aligned with his theological assertions that make truth to be something incontrovertible- not just in its language but in its lived experience!
Most likely, Pascal is referencing the words and teachings of Jesus here, and that we can know when truth has been spoken by what happens next: A shift or change in one’s awareness or life experience, a healing or a moral correction that attests to the powerful alchemy of the truth of the words that were spoken.
As I understand Jesus, among the many qualities he demonstrated, within his parables and instructions, he was living and teaching transparency for Truth…
