The Integration of the Female Wisdom

The limitations of Western science and democracy have become more and more evident. The disastrous effects of Western industrialization, the physical, social, and psychological polluting the world, acutely threatens to destroy us. But this is no “accident” due to the misuse of science and technology, it is due to a foundational defect in Western [man]… The balance can only be restored when a meeting takes place between East and West. 

This meeting must take place at the deepest level of human consciousness. It is an encounter ultimately between the two fundamental dimensions of human nature; the male and the female– the masculine, rational, active, dominating power of mind, and the feminine, intuitive, passive, and receptive power.

Matthew Fox adds these thoughts and and questions:

“Bede Griffiths lays the cause of the world’s current ecological collapse at the feet of the one-sided consciousness of Western man and our failure to incorporate feminine consciousness into our awareness. This fundamental “defect” is the first thing to restore a much-needed balance. Do you agree that consciousness is more important than technology?”

For me, this raises an interesting and compelling premise: that the evidence of an ongoing dominant and often unethical toxic masculinity is the root cause of our ecological crisis! I do agree with this premise and its environmentally deviating impact! Tragically, we can see it operating in every soulless capitalist decision that exploits or demeans the dignity of humanity and the value of their work: issues such as minimum wage, health benefits, parental leave, and the failure of addressing the real causes of absenteeism and lack of productivity that arise from such dehumanizing policies. 

The cure or the solution being what Fr. Griffiths sees that was is required for healing and reconciliation on an interpersonal, as well as global level, is the inclusion of the feminine qualities of God/life/consciousness that serves to balance, the excesses that have brought us to this crisis point.

The larger question is HOW this reintegration/synthesis/ transformation will happen– 

IF it ever will! Will it be led by the schools? Not likely? Will it be led by religious education? 

I sincerely doubt it! Will it be led by Congress and capitalism itself? Only if pushed to acknowledge its own collusion and its own “back to the wall” desperate situation …

and even then? 

My hope, my fervent desires for a wider and deeper global wake-up call that results in a channeling of both disgust and outrage poured into the alchemical process; a process that redeems those energies and results in meaningful corrective actions.

 In my awareness, along with Fr.Griffiths, is closely aligned with the Biblical statement of“ The women and children will lead us” The time for that leadership shift is Now!
