The New Moon of September 2026

Sun & Moon at 18 Virgo; no close aspects Mercury enters Libra; Venus enters Scorpio;  Opposes Chiron; Uranus retrograde on the 11th…

Lessons in Practical Magic?

While this week does not feature many planetary aspects, it does allow the Moon to roam freely which can be more emotionally trying and surprisingly tender…

This week does, however, bring some important shifts and distinct changes in the direction of planetary travels; planets changing signs and influences, and the possibility of more dramatic changes brought about by Uranus shifting gears!

Given that more exacting and precise nature of Virgo and the fact that Virgo rules the 6th house of daily routine, employees, ldailya endas, and also contains any concerns for health and well being, and on this new moon could be summed up as or need for “clarification.”

Being or becoming more clear is connected to the spiritual virtue of discernment. The ability to evaluate ideas, motives, and subsequent actions or to discern what is true, right, and good for your life, and then once identified, to clear or clean out any old lingering barriers or obstacles or obstacles.

(Rumi quote “[In order to receive love or be ready for love, we first have to clear out our own obstacles or barriers we have to love…”]

Remember to locate where Virgo is in your chart… The house it occupies and then look IF there are any planets in those houses that might be influenced or affected if they are near the 18th degree… That knowledge assists you in pinpointing what the general report holds for you…

This new moon offers us the opportunity to create a greater sense of order out of our personal chaos; whether that is, in my case, long overdue purging of too much papers, old research, sermon topics etc., or maybe it could be expressed if you have overgrown landscaping that needs attention, or for that matter, IF your appearance needs some cleaning and trimming, etc.

Virgo can be fastidious, exacting…and yes, exasperating when taken too far! However, Virgo’s gift to us is teaching us about the freedom found in better organization, self care, healthy routines etc.

Virgo energies will support your efforts and provide you with both the incentive and the willingness to follow through on any neglected areas that could use or benefit from your particular brand of TLC!

As a summary of those planetary shifts into new signs, the research site, Astrodientist, gives us these descriptive words:

“On 10 September, Venus, the goddess of love, beauty, and art, enters Scorpio, opposing Chiron, which is retrograde on the first degree of Taurus. In Scorpio’s attire, not only does her appearance become more passionate, profound, and uncompromising, but so does relationship life. Chiron’s influence touches deeper layers, which may make it necessary to pay serious attention to the themes of love and attraction.

Thanks to Mercury, which also changes sign on 10 September, reaching Libra, this is a good time for therapeutic processes or careful, respectful, and solution-oriented conversations. Honesty and authenticity create good conditions for sustainable compromises. You can now also experience old stories and painful feelings more consciously and transform them.

Also on 10 September, Uranus turns retrograde until 8 February 2027. Some innovations of recent months now need to be reassessed and checked for their viability.

… Use this time to create order, whether in your home, in the garden, or in your thoughts. Thorough research and clarifying conversations are now favored and could bring surprising insights. Artistic activities, especially creative writing, benefit from a welcome flow.”

Moving our focus back to this particular new moon in Virgo,  and emphasizing the practical and pragmatic side to Virgo, we can more readily see spiritual life is not detached from the ordinary ways and requirements we need to live and how best to function in the world.

Too often, in the history of spiritual studies, and certainly in many New Age circles, there is a barrier/divorce of the spiritual from the material, the evelated from the ordinary. Our collective task is to infuse those qualities, those virtues and values into everything we do… it is a mindful awareness or a heart-centered discernment that is being asked of us…

Here is what April Elliot Kent has to say about the naue of these Virgo energies, and how they can be better understood. She writes:

“This ability to settle and soothe the discord of daily life is the practical magic of Virgo. Ordinarily when I think of magic, it’s the heady style of Scorpio that springs to mind, a fragrant and thrilling pastiche of pentacles, black velvet, and patchouli. As for spirituality, that adjective has always belonged, in my mind, to my Pisces friends, warm and sweet-natured, unfailingly compassionate, and full of concern and good works for a wide range of social causes.

But most of us are not full-time priestesses or everyday saints. We’re just people with jobs, carpools, and colicky pets. We may wish for more time – and tranquility – to spend in meditation, but as Dana once pointed out, it’s Virgo and the sixth house that represent the everyday world where we spend most of our time. Do we feel well? Do we have work to do? Is there bread for tomorrow’s breakfast? Traffic snarls, paying the bills, balancing the checkbook, washing the dishes: this is the Virgo stuff our days tend to be made of.

Finding the Sacred in the Ordinary

Going to worship services and participating in other formalized rituals can be beautiful, meaningful. These are moments when we get to step outside of our routines and examine our spiritual progress with an objective eye, unencumbered by the distractions of regular life.

But for most of us, formal ritual has to be carved out of days that are already bulging at the seams. When we leave our formalized ritual spaces, we need a method of pursuing our lofty spiritual goals in the real world, ideally one that capitalizes on the fifteen waking hours each day that most of us spend just taking care of business.

Enter Virgo, who asks, what if each part of your day, tasks great and small, could be a catalyst for your spiritual growth? At this Virgo New Moon, pledge yourself to a renewed spirit of practical magic – of reorganizing your daily routine so that it is supports your spiritual objectives, and resetting your mental routine so that it instinctively seeks spiritual opportunity in chores and details.

Clean out your drawers, your filing cabinet, your heart; sew buttons, darn socks, mend relationships; donate, volunteer, and pledge yourself to causes that are important to you. Candles, herbs, incense, and gemstones are fine tools for accessing our higher selves, but so are brooms, mops, and dustpans.”

Another valuable and insightful point of view comes from Simone Butler, who columns and reflections appear in Mooncircles newsletter and has a speciality in studying the Moon and its many phases. She writes:

“At the upcoming Virgo New Moon (Sept. 10, 8:27 p.m. PT), we’re all being given the opportunity to plant something meaningful in our lives. After a challenging eclipse season, the atmosphere is changing as this earthy energy helps us get grounded and get started on our own new projects. This lunation at 18 Virgo sextiles Mars in Cancer, which favors active nurturing. Virgo’s ruler, Mercury, pops into sociable Libra at the New Moon through month’s end. Others are apt to be amenable to our requests, since Mercury trines Pluto in civic-minded Aquarius. The winged messenger is direct all month before turning retrograde toward the end of October, so set up those meetings now. …

Another x-factor at this lunation is Uranus stationing retrograde in Gemini. Expect the unexpected, as sudden insights and changes abound. You’ll have until next February, when Uranus turns direct, to fact-check, gather more data and wade through past records to sort things out that may be unclear.”
