Not just because of the strength of Mercury retrograde nearby, and of course that is an important factor, but when I consider this starting phase, this new moon in Cancer, I will often need to pause; to take some time to either wind down or to reflect on what has or has not happened in the months prior…

Over these few days – starting Sunday through Tuesday- there have been and still are long void periods, and time that we can use for reflection rather than feeling coerced to push on ahead with tasks and goals…

Some might say that I am being cautious, or reserved… but my intuition offers me a needed respite, more time for healing, and time to assess more objectively what my next steps through this summer will be…

Just before this new moon, on the 13th, Mercury conjoins the Sun and is cazimi, or in the heart of the Sun. While significant on its own, because it happens in Cancer, just before the new moon, this retrograde close to the new moon will be carrying a greater focus or potential intensity when looking at all the themes of Cancer- home, family, etc.- and can extend to looking at where 20 degrees of Cancer is located in your natal chart…

A more psychological reflection has been given to us by Farstellar research group. They write:

“That is why this retrograde has been so heavy. I know it has. It has been dragging people out of your past and putting them back in front of you, turning up the old feelings, the old rooms, the old versions of you.

Neptune opens the heart to spiritual bliss and compassion; it can just as easily obscure the cold, hard facts of 3-D reality as it lures us into a promise of oneness.

When a planet appears to change direction and slows down before making the turn, its influence is at its most potent. This is especially true if you have planets between 0º and 10º degrees of Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn and Neptune is bearing down hard on your own chart.“

The promise of Neptune is a beautiful one, and the gift Neptune offers is real. This late Spring and early Summer has seen a radical shift in elemental astrology. It has seen the shift and change from the earthly and watery to the airy and fiery. While we expect some monthly changes when dealing with normally speedy Mercury and Venus, it has become quite distinctly different!

Not only do we have an extended Mercury retrograde in Cancer, but we also have Jupiter shifting from watery Cancer into fiery Leo; We already are learning to work with Saturn in Aries, but the more elusive and intuitive Neptune lounging her way back through those early degrees of Aries that promise to prolong her influence for years to come!

Adding our early care and concern about the travels of Uranus’s shift from earthy Taurus into airy Gemini, and Pluto exerting his force on early degrees of Aquarius, we are heeded for some unusual activities by month’s end!

It seems akin to a strategy game, a chess match, or military maneuvers that will line up and create a new framework or blueprint for understanding social changes and guidelines, the possibilities for personal transformation.

Shifting the focus, we can begin our more careful time of evaluation as Venus moves into Virgo after having an exuberant run through demonstrative Leo…

Neptune, Uranus, Jupiter and Pluto form a Cradle configuration, which means that 4 successive same-polarity signs draw the focus to one part of the chart.
